Their end dates are near… Here’s 4 things to do before many families leave the city on Spring Break (scroll further to see why.)
- MARCH 9: The Guggenheim Museum: Harmonly & Dissonance: Orphism in Paris
- March 16: LUNA LUNA: The Forgotten Fantasy
- March 16: NYC’s International Children’s Film Festival (10% off tickets with exclusive CCA code: CCA2025)
- Sundown Daily: The Gates (AR).

Coming out of the doldrums of the NYC cold grey winter months, seeing the rich orange ‘Christo’ colors return and starting new classes in exciting places provide excitement and the reassurance of Spring’s promise of rebirth and creation.
Take this past weekend’s journey to Central Park to see the Augmented Reality version of “The Gates” in Central Park (has it really been 20 years?!), then in snow-covered hills, now in sunlit warmed pathways. It was so much fun to watch the people who had idea that what we were looking at was right above their heads, or at least we could see it with the QR codes provided along the route. There were cool shadows, fun shapes and receding lines, interesting facts, interacting with people (and things you know are not there.) How empowering to walk through what was once over 600 lbs. of steel bases to hold each of these ‘Gates’ up; It was fun! Not to mention the cast of characters and general human (and animal) collaboration Central Park provides: The roller-skaters, dancers, musicians, tourists, food carts, locals just out for a walk, squirrels, people getting married on a bridge, artists and protesters alike all moving through and around each other, and of course through the (non-existent) Gates. The collaboration between Christo and Jeanne-Claude, through years of hard work to wrap the world in fabrics, is amazing. Thank you Jenny Green for the invite! The Guggenheim

This exhibit provides SO many opportunities in color theory exploration, the science of color, drawing geometric shapes and forms and discussing and seeing the relationship between music and art. *Synesthesia affected the artist Kandinsky, which gave us the opportunity to relate & explore the 2 artforms in recent visits with classes and in upcoming camps. *Synesthesia is a phenomenon that causes sensory crossovers, such as tasting colors or feeling sounds. Some people describe it as having “wires crossed” in their brain because it activates two or more senses when there’s only a reason for one sense to activate.
Luna Luna: Forgotten Fantasy

“A spectacular showcase of the world’s first art amusement park—lost since 1987.” This is one of my favorite experiences in NYC! Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, Salvador Dali, Roy Lichtenstein, David Hockney installations and more. There is just too much to say about this fantastical interactive art extravaganza. If you also want to better understand how history meets the arts in the most cohesive presentation, this is your chance. It depicts the best linear account I’ve seen of how the current events (then) shaped the responsive art (just behind Haring’s wall)… and to think it all ended up in storage units, forgotten, in Texas! Afterwards, enjoy the Hudson Yards’ unique buildings along the Hudson River.
